Sketchbook Detour

***Temporary Sketchbook Detour***

I began a solo motorcycle trip from Los Angeles on Friday, June 22, 2012, heading north, as far as I'm having fun. I'll be updating my sketchbook with posts from the road, and not necessarily artwork. I'm too beat by the time I'm in camp or in a cheap motel.

I'll continue with the sketches when I get back in a few weeks.

Yeah right! It's been months! I'll get back to it as I finish up some classes and have more time again. Maybe in another month, like in February, 2013.

Dreamy Doodling

Here's another one from a meeting.  I haven't a clue about the imagery...

Woman Ink Doodle with Photoshop

I found this drawing that I did a while back and can't remember how it came about.  I cringe at the mustache-looking parts, but what the hell, it's interesting enough I suppose.

Meeting Doodle

Whenever I've got a pen or pencil at my disposal and I'm at idle, I doodle.  I'm able to focus on the class that I'm taking or the meeting I'm in while watching what develops on my page.

Riding Dirt Sketch

In this sketch I was trying out my new white gel pen to see if I could knock out or highlight over the black ink.  Hmm...  I like some of the accents, but it's still not what I'm looking for.  However, I do like the sketchiness, smudges, and mistakes in this one.

Old Motorcycle Racers

This is a drawing from a photo in an old Cycle World magazine.  Love those rounded fairings.

Motorcycle Touring with Alaskan Mosquitoes

I'm riding my 1998 Suzuki DR650 from Santa Monica to Alaska this summer and over the past month I've started planning.  I absolutely love preparing for my trips.  Getting the bike in top shape and figuring out my gear and fitting it into my 21 liter Givi side cases is a whole lot of fun for me.  It becomes a big (potentially expensive) game.  Anyway, I also research what I can about where I'm going.  For example, it's good to know that hotels are out of my budget, and I've heard that I need to watch out for bears and mosquitoes.  Actually I've read so many silly stories about how treacherous everything is that I can't take anything that seriously.

Yeah yeah...  Everywhere is dangerous and uncomfortable and sounds like fun.
