Sketchbook Detour
***Temporary Sketchbook Detour***
I began a solo motorcycle trip from Los Angeles on Friday, June 22, 2012, heading north, as far as I'm having fun. I'll be updating my sketchbook with posts from the road, and not necessarily artwork. I'm too beat by the time I'm in camp or in a cheap motel.
I'll continue with the sketches when I get back in a few weeks.
Yeah right! It's been months! I'll get back to it as I finish up some classes and have more time again. Maybe in another month, like in February, 2013.

Big Teeth Skull Ink Drawing
Here's the deal... I've avoided the dentist for maybe decades and got to the point where my cavities were bad enough to force me to go. This drawing is what happened before I went to get my mouth checked out. Stay tuned for the exciting results.

Weird-Ass Red Guy Drawing
I've been exploring these strange, somewhat tribal faces. He was pretty odd, but less interesting without any color, so blammo! Web-safe red and blue, courtesy of my legitimate copy of Photoshop CS2!

Spine Guy Topless Genie Ink Drawing
Damnit! When I look at this one it looks like I did a painting on black velvet. Oh well.. That's why it's my sketchbook instead of my finished work. The concept I do like, even if it didn't manifest how I would have preferred. Hmm... Velvet Elvis...

Rattle Snake Man Ink Drawing
I've been playing around with Mayan influenced art and concepts related to Quetzalcoatl. You'll see variations on this face off on over the next few weeks.

Ink Dragon Sketch
I love how this one turned out. I'm still drawing with my trusty Kuretake brush pen ($3.50) and licking my finger to do wet-smudging. I'm working on postcard sized Arturo RSVP torn-edged cards (From Hiromi Paper in Santa Monica). That's my standard go-to art kit.

Man-Eating Plant Ink Doodle
Here's another drawing from a meeting. More than one person has noticed that my doodles from meetings follow a fairly dark theme. Apparently, this is what's going on in my subconscious while we discuss important stuff at work.

Skull and Fingers Doodle Pattern
Suitable for using as a pattern for something. Not sure what... Just head down to Kinkos and have them print it up to use as wrapping paper. That'll cost you about $200 for a 3x4 foot sheet. Not a good deal.

Sick Boy Ink Sketch and Triptych
Here's another delightful image. And by "delightful," I mean creepy and uncomfortable.
Here's that triptych idea I've been talking about. I messed with it in Photoshop to make the different characters stand out. Together it still makes me think of the story of The Black Rider.
