When I start out these drawings I seldom intend for them to be as dark as they turn out. This guy sorta just turned evil and scary. What can I say?
***Temporary Sketchbook Detour***
I began a solo motorcycle trip from Los Angeles on Friday, June 22, 2012, heading north, as far as I'm having fun. I'll be updating my sketchbook with posts from the road, and not necessarily artwork. I'm too beat by the time I'm in camp or in a cheap motel.
I'll continue with the sketches when I get back in a few weeks.
Yeah right! It's been months! I'll get back to it as I finish up some classes and have more time again. Maybe in another month, like in February, 2013.

I found this little bronze guy in a book on Scythian art. He's from the 6th century BC. I like the style, so I did a quick sketch in red ink with a super-fine pen, then continued on with my brush pen. I was debating removing the red ink to create a more finished drawing, but figure that it can be done later, and that it would just be a cool piece of clip-art.

As 2012 is becoming a reality, I want to clear up what it's BASICALLY about. Well... The Mayans divide up their time into huge chunks of somewhere around 5000 years. One of those chunks is ending and they didn't continue their calendars beyond that. So we're questioning whether they knew something that we don't, and we'll be hit with a major world-wide change and maybe Quetzalcoatl (possibly an evil serpent-type alien) will return, or maybe we'll have to just print up some new, next 5000 years calendar, and get on with it.
I'm thinking that whether or not something big is coming up, we should work on improving ourselves and the world. It's getting crowded here and we can't continue with business as usual. The first thing that we can each do is work on becoming more compassionate and increase our energetic frequency.

I have been interested in the styles of these ancient cultures. Did you know that the Mayan's calendar is more accurate than our current calendar? We have to do leap years to stay up to date. They don't.
I started out with the face, with no intent on continuing with the whole calendar. As a note, it's not accurate. I've got extra symbols in spots and have neglected others, so don't use this calendar for your date keeping needs.
