***Temporary Sketchbook Detour***
I began a solo motorcycle trip from Los Angeles on Friday, June 22, 2012, heading north, as far as I'm having fun. I'll be updating my sketchbook with posts from the road, and not necessarily artwork. I'm too beat by the time I'm in camp or in a cheap motel.
I'll continue with the sketches when I get back in a few weeks.
Yeah right! It's been months! I'll get back to it as I finish up some classes and have more time again. Maybe in another month, like in February, 2013.

Here's another Jim Butcher Dresden Files inspired drawing. It's Kuretake pen on paper and paint-bucket colored in Photoshop. NOTE: Click the picture to see it without the odd noise in the image. Maybe I need to check to see if the color is web-safe(?).

I did this drawing while listening to an audiobook version of one of the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. It seems that it may have had an influence on the few pieces of artwork that I worked on at the time. I used my $3.50 Kuretake pen-brush on paper and added smudges with my finger. Then I copied, flipped, and pasted the image in multiple layers in Adobe Photoshop.

I've been spending a lot of time doing quick drawings on postcard sized pieces of paper, so over the weekend I hit up our local Japanese paper store, Hiromi Paper, and picked up a box of expensive, quality artist paper that is pre-cut to roughly postcard size. I also grabbed a bunch of Kuretake Brush Pens. These things are really nice for $3.50 a piece.
I like to create washes while working in ink by using touching my finger to my tongue to moisten my finger, then smudging where needed. Yeah, it's weird, but I like the end result.

Here's a doodle I did that evolved into a joke about the evils of alcohol. I started out with the bottle and glass and without any real thought or direction became filled with lame and random symbolism.
I should do some of these with a hidden character like Waldo or Goldbug (my favorite).
