***Temporary Sketchbook Detour***
I began a solo motorcycle trip from Los Angeles on Friday, June 22, 2012, heading north, as far as I'm having fun. I'll be updating my sketchbook with posts from the road, and not necessarily artwork. I'm too beat by the time I'm in camp or in a cheap motel.
I'll continue with the sketches when I get back in a few weeks.
Yeah right! It's been months! I'll get back to it as I finish up some classes and have more time again. Maybe in another month, like in February, 2013.

I did a very quick sketch of this actress I saw in a magazine. I'm not sure if I've lost value in the scan, but it'd be easy to turn her into a stencil. Now what is her name? I can't remember what show she's on, or who she is, but I'm guessing I'll do an "Oh yeah..." when you tell me.

I've been looking through my adventure motorcycling books and am enamored with these rally bikes that they use in rallies like the Paris-Dakar race. Anyhow, as I drew my bike, I embraced the distortion and turned it into a rally bike on a stick. The original sketch was in pencil, then I accented it with a brush marker. I don't know what the dude is doing...

Here's a pencil sketch of a girl I saw in a magazine. I used a Prismacolor ebony pencil, a white rubber eraser, my electric eraser, and my finger for smudging. I've heard people gasp at my decision to use my finger instead of a smudge stick, as oils from the hand will affect the paper's surface and the paper will deteriorate quicker so it's not very archival friendly, but I like the quickness the finger smudge allows me. I'm also fine with spills and stains on my work, so I guess I'm not archival friendly.
